Transfer Information

We offer families choices through our open enrollment policy. If space is available, students can attend a PUHSD school other than their assigned "home" school (based on your residential address). Families are responsible for providing their own transportation — the district does not provide bus service for transfer students.

There are two main types of transfers:

Intra-District Transfer (Schools within PUHSD)

This is for families who live within Perris Union High School District boundaries and want their child to attend a different PUHSD school than their neighborhood/home school.

  • Application Window: Applications are accepted starting January 1st each year for the upcoming school year through May 31st.
  • Renewal: All approved Intra-District transfers must be renewed every year.
  • Approval: Placement depends on available space at the requested school, grade level, and/or program.
Approval is not guaranteed. Transfers are approved based on available space at the school, grade level, and program. Some schools may be impacted and not accepting new transfers if at capacity.
  • After Approval: Families must complete online registration within 10 school days of approval (or within 10 school days after the upcoming year's registration period opens, if approved early).
  • Policy Reference: Policy 5116.1: Intra-District Open Enrollment, Regulation 5116.1: Intra-District Open Enrollment

Inter-District Transfer (Outside PUHSD Boundaries)

  • Application Window: The district begins accepting and processing Inter-District transfer requests starting January 1 for the upcoming school year.
  • Approval/Denial Reasons: The district may deny a request if:
    • Supporting documentation is not provided.
    • Information on the application is false, incomplete, or misleading.
    • The request does not meet criteria in District Governing Board policy or show sufficient valid justification.
  • Timelines & Appeals: Parents/guardians must meet all district timelines — missing them may be considered abandonment of the request. If denied, families may appeal to the district that denied the transfer request within 30 days of the transfer denial.
  • Policy Reference: Policy 5117: Inter-District Attendance, Regulation 5117: Inter-District Attendance

Important Notes for All Transfers

No Guarantee: Any transfer request is subject to space availability at the time of submission. Placement is not guaranteed.

Transportation: Students approved for transfers (intra- or inter-district) are not eligible for district-provided transportation.

Annual Requirement: Transfers are valid for one school year only — families must reapply annually.

We encourage families to apply early and check for updates, as availability and impacted schools can change.
