Local Funding
Moving Forward for Students in Perris Union High School District
2026 School Improvement Bond Measure
Local Funding for Neighborhood Schools - Without Raising Taxes
Dear Neighbors,
At the Perris Union High School District (PUHSD), we aim to create high-quality and relevant learning opportunities in a safe and caring environment for our local students in Menifee, Perris, Romoland, and Nuevo.
We ensure that students who plan to go to college are prepared to succeed and that those who don’t plan to go to college receive the job skills and career training they need to compete for good-paying jobs.
While some of our schools are newer or have been updated, there are still many classrooms and facilities across the District that are aging, need safety and security updates, and need proper access for students with disabilities. Last year alone, there were 35 classrooms with leaky roofs.
Our area is growing fast. For example, Liberty High School just opened in 2021 and is already at maximum capacity. We need to build new schools and add classrooms at existing schools to keep up with growth and avoid overcrowding.
That is why PUHSD is working in close collaboration with DLR Group, a well-respected school architecture, design, and engineering expert. We are in the process of assessing the condition of every classroom in the District and providing long-term facilities master planning for our local high schools and middle school.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. We remain committed to providing transparency, engaging in responsible stewardship, and delivering the high-quality schools our communities deserve.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jose Luis Araux
Superintendent, Perris Union High School District
All students deserve the same access to updated classrooms and facilities. While no decision has been made, the PUHSD Board of Trustees is considering placing a local school improvement bond extension measure on the November 2026 ballot to keep our school facilities safe and up to date for local students.
If approved by voters, the measure would provide up to $187 million to:
- Provide model career and technical education facilities and equipment in construction, welding, auto mechanics, and skilled trades
- Provide the classrooms, facilities, and technology needed to support high-quality STEM instruction
- Repair or replace deteriorating roofs, plumbing, gas lines, sewer lines, and electrical systems where needed
- Improve student safety and campus security systems
Without increasing existing tax rates, this proposed measure would extend the current rate previously approved by voters at $20 per $100,000 of a property’s assessed (not market) value for as long as bonds are outstanding.
By law, any potential school bond measure would include strict fiscal accountability protections to ensure responsible use of funds including a detailed project list describing how funds must be spent and required public disclosure of all spending.
