Hello! My name is Shaun Jones, and I have been teaching English at Paloma Valley High School for sixteen years. I hold both a B.A. in Literature and Writing Studies with an Emphasis in Writing and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from CSU San Marcos.

AP Language and Composition: AP Language is a college-level course that will “engage the student in becoming a skilled reader of prose written in a variety of periods, disciplines, and rhetorical contexts, and in becoming a skilled writer who composes for a variety of purposes” (AP Course Description, 2009). Electing this course commits the student to a serious course of study in English Language and Composition, which will require a comprehensive effort. The crux of this class is to support students in both demonstrating keen critical skills in reading a variety of texts and writing effective and engaging compositions. 

Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum: ERWC was designed through a joint effort between high school teachers and the CSU system with the objective of preparing students for college-level reading, writing, and inquiry. This class will continue to expand your knowledge of literature, grammar, composition, and vocabulary. My goal is to help you improve your reading, writing, listening and oral communication skills in challenging, engaging, and interactive ways that meet and exceed Common Core English Standards.

This will be an exciting year of learning, growth, and innovation for both my students and myself. I am eager to help lead us through this new landscape of education. If we all work together, we will all succeed.
