Teacher Bio

Hello!

My name is Maggie Maratsos (pronounced "muh-ROT-sus"), and I'm one of five agriculture teachers at Heritage High School.  I grew up just down the road in Fallbrook, California, the self-proclaimed "Avocado Capital of the World."  I was involved in agriculture courses myself while I attended Fallbrook High School.  I graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with my Bachelor's Degree in 2012 in Environmental Horticulture and my Master's Degree in 2014 in Agriculture Education.

This is my ninth year of teaching, all of which have been spent at Heritage High School.  During that time, I have had the pleasure of teaching and coaching students through a variety of agriculture classes and FFA public speaking and career development events.  This year, I am teaching Horticulture Science, Ag. Chemistry, Ag. Leadership, and Ag. Biology.  I primarily use Canvas to post all of my class assignments, though we do use Google Classroom in each of these classes as well, at certain points.

In FFA, I am the coach for the Nursery/Landscape (O.H.) team, the Parliamentary Procedure and Debate team, the advanced Opening/Closing Ceremonies team, and I also coach the individual event of Extemporaneous Public Speaking.  I also run our regular FFA plant sales, which we advertise on our social media pages.

In my spare time, I love traveling (I especially love visiting National Parks, hiking, and camping).  I've been a musician since I was in grade school, having been in band from 4th grade to college.  I love sitting and reading with my cats, Lily and Neville.

The main location where all work for my classes will be posted is on Canvas.  If you are ever curious about what work is being assigned in my classes, Canvas is updated daily with agendas and assignments.  I also utilize Google Classroom (in addition to Canvas) in my Ag. Chemistry classes.  I update grades nearly every week on Infinite Campus, so it should be easy for parents/guardians to check in on their students' progress.
