Welcome everyone!
I'm Mr. Lara, and I am very happy to be starting my 8th year at Pinacate Middle School. I teach 8th grade United States History in not the typical boring fashion history is normally taught.
I attended Chaffey Community College where I received my Associate of Arts degree before transferring to Cal State Fullerton. In high school, I was in marching band where I played Alto Saxophone. Unfortunately, I don't play as much anymore, but I still have a big passion for music. Music is not the only hobby I have. I love movies, I'm a big Star Wars fan, and I love collecting LEGO and Funko. I have a dog named Benjamin, and he does indeed have a little wardrobe. His favorite clothing items to wear are his red turtle neck, bow tie, and his fuzzy winter bathrobe.
When it comes to teaching history, my mission is to get students interested and to want to investigate further. I know how boring history can be when it is taught as just memorizing dates and names. My way of teaching history is by guiding students down a path where they are uncovering new sides and perspectives. I have them think critically about events and see how events going on now connect with events that have happened in the past.
Here is the trailer for Semester 1 in my class.
This school year, I will be using Canvas as my learning management system. Students will find all digital work and tests on Canvas. Infinite Campus will be the place to check grades. I update it often

I also will be using a site called
Badgr.com where students can earn digital badges for accomplishing different achievements in my class. Students can sign up for free using their school email.
The best way to reach me is through my email: christopher.lara@puhsd.org
