Hello and welcome to Mr. Opiyo's English 1 Class. This is a six-unit Freshman Class with a thematic approach. Each Unit has a Big Question (BQ) and the activities will lead toward answering the BQ. In the first semester we will study Units 1 - 3. Each unit will last approximately six weeks and will be concluded with an essay writing assignment, followed by a Bench Mark Test. There will be a final examination at the end of every semester.

   By the end of the school year, students who will have successfully completed this course will be better prepared for English 2, the CAHSE, and the CSTs.
